Over 60 Years of Conservation in the Kalahari
Kuzikus is a private, state-recognised wildlife reserve covering around 10,377 hectares on the edge of the Kalahari semi-desert. It is also a UN-recognised protected area, currently working towards a higher level of UN certification. What began as a cattle farm is now an internationally recognised model of conservation without unnecessary bureaucracy, sustained by a family of biologists and a team combining science, traditional knowledge and practical fieldwork.
Protecting the black rhino is at the heart of this work. Since 1997, Kuzikus has been an official participant in the national Black Rhino Custodianship Programme, one of Africa’s most successful conservation programmes. The team opens the door to the Kalahari’s plant and animal life, explaining it in ways that children and adults alike can understand.
Kuzikus has already been a filming location for ZDF Terra X “Abenteuer Namibia” (2022), France 2 “Kalahari – L’autre loi de la jungle” (2021) and France TV “Instinct Animal – Déserts de Namibie” (2023). Interested in making your own film at Kuzikus? Please contact us.
