An exclusive horse-riding safari dedicated to the conservation of Black Rhinos.
Ride4BlackRhino is a unique riding experience in the heart of the Kalahari, combining adventure, conservation and equestrian excellence at the highest level. In the private Kuzikus Wildlife Reserve in Namibia, we offer exclusive safari trail rides for advanced riders – with the aim of raising awareness of the conservation of the endangered black rhinos.
DELIBERATELY SMALL AND PERSONAL
Usually just you and a guide, or a maximum of three other riders.
This is the only way to ensure an immersive experience of nature and riding, as well as personalised attention from the guide.
The pace, duration and route can be tailored perfectly to your needs.
About us
The riding programme is led by Nichola McNamara-Reinhard. She arrived in Kuzikus from Ireland in 2010 with extensive experience in trail riding and horsemanship, and has now been leading riding safaris here for over 15 years alongside her team, allowing you to experience the wilderness in the most authentic way – on horseback!
Our Horses
Our herd consists of around 10 well-trained, sure-footed horses – including Arabian crosses, a Friesian mix, Appaloosas and a Trakehner mix for heavier riders. All horses are accustomed to the harsh climate and wildlife of the Kalahari and live in a natural herd environment. For the rides, we mainly use trail saddles as well as dressage and eventing saddles from well-known brands (e.g. Wintec, Stübben, Kieffer, Barefoot).
Riding skills
Our riding safaris are aimed exclusively at advanced and experienced riders who are confident in all gaits and can ride confidently over country. The programme includes at least one ride per day (in the morning or afternoon), depending on which riding package has been booked. The pace and level of difficulty can be tailored to individual needs. Unfortunately, beginners and children without sufficient riding experience cannot take part.
Important: The maximum weight for riders, including equipment, is 82 kg. A secure, independent seat is essential.
What should I bring?
• Your own riding helmet (compulsory; helmets are also available on site)
• Comfortable riding breeches (not too thick), riding boots or chaps with sturdy footwear
• Warm clothing for cool mornings/evenings (May–September)
• Sunglasses, sun cream, lip balm, gloves
Safety & Insurance
• Wearing a riding helmet is compulsory.
• Valid international health insurance covering emergency evacuation is a prerequisite.
• Every participant must be physically fit and able to handle a horse safely – even in the event of spontaneous gallops or encounters with wildlife.
Group Size & Atmosphere
Our horse riding safaris are deliberately kept small and personal: a maximum of 3 riders per group ensures an immersive experience of nature and personalised attention from the guide. This allows the pace, duration and route to be tailored perfectly to the group.
Participation by children
In principle, our horse riding packages are not intended for children. In exceptional cases, very experienced, physically fit young riders may participate following consultation.
Terrain requirements
• Daily riding sessions can last up to 3 hours.
• You must be able to:
- ride confidently at all gaits,
- rise in the saddle at a trot,
- control your horse at a canter,
- remain calm and act safely when encountering wildlife.
• In certain situations, a fast canter may be necessary.
Weight & Fitness
• The maximum weight per rider (including equipment) is 82 kg.
• Please state your weight, riding ability and fitness level honestly.
• Riders who cannot maintain an independent seat or whose details do not meet the requirements may be excluded from the riding programme.
Preparation & Training
• If you do not ride regularly (at least 2–3 times a week), we strongly recommend that you resume training before booking.
• The decision regarding the participation of untrained riders is at the discretion of Kuzikus Wildlife Reserve.
Responsibility towards the group
• Each participant is responsible for:
- accurately assessing and communicating their riding abilities,
- behaving respectfully towards fellow riders, guides and horses.
• Riders with physical limitations or special needs are advised not to take part.
We thank you for your understanding and honesty – they form the basis for a safe, respectful and unforgettable riding adventure in the Kalahari.
Booking
Riding activities must be booked in advance; last-minute bookings on site are not possible. Please request our Rider Profile & Registration Form, which asks for your personal details, riding ability and medical information.

ON A LEAD ROPE
For children under 12, we offer short (30-minute) rides on horseback within the farm’s secure grounds. One of our horse guides will explain the basics of riding and horse care to the children.
Together, we’ll bridle the horse, and then your child will be led on a lead rope around the farm’s secure grounds.
Grooming and feeding are, of course, also part of the experience.
We also have children’s riding helmets available – the aim is to help children get used to being around horses and to give the next generation their first riding experience.
Ride4BlackRhino stands for sustainable equestrian tourism in harmony with nature, horses and people.
We look forward to discovering the magic of the Kalahari with you
