Astrophotography under one of Namibia’s darkest skies

Seven permanent platforms, equipment hire and a live AllSky camera

Since June 2026, Kuzikus has offered purpose-built facilities for keen astrophotographers: a secluded location, dark skies and calm conditions for deep-sky and landscape astrophotography, with no stray light. For a glimpse right now, you can follow the current sky above Kuzikus live on our AllSky camera.

Astrophotography facilities on site

Seven permanent, stable astrophotography platforms form the heart of the facility. Each platform rests on two isolated concrete pillars to minimise vibration and has three 230 V sockets (one per pillar and one at the edge), an RJ45 Ethernet connection and Wi-Fi. Wind protection at every platform and the quiet location with little light pollution complete the conditions.

Equipment & hire

If you prefer not to bring all your own equipment, the following is available to hire on site:

Work & storage areas

The astronomy room, known internally as the “Rhino Lab”, provides a large workbench for setting up and maintaining equipment.
A lockable astronomy storeroom provides clean, secure storage, and a separate astronomy Wi-Fi network covers the entire lodge.

Short distances on site

All facilities are close together, so there is no need for a long walk after a night under the stars:

Support on site

A small, welcoming team provides individual support, in keeping with Kuzikus’s approach to ecotourism: deliberately small groups, even under the stars. Your rooms are just 100 metres from the astronomy room; see the guest farm page for details of the rooms and their style.

Ideal for accompanying guests too

Your partner is very welcome to join you. We offer unique nature experiences for them too: horse riding, rhino tracking, birdwatching, wildlife viewing at the waterhole and fascinating botanical tours. These activities can also be enjoyed in poor weather.

Astronomy workshops with Mehmet Ergün

The quality of the Kuzikus sky was evident even before the new facilities opened: internationally acclaimed astrophotographer Mehmet Ergün runs his own astronomy workshops right here on the reserve. This independently confirms Kuzikus’s standing among Namibia’s special locations for astrophotography.
