Namibia is a good destination throughout the year. The Kalahari has a typical desert climate: sunny, warm days and cool, clear nights, always accompanied by a gentle breeze. Rather than four distinct seasons, there are warmer and cooler months, with a generally summery feel. You can enjoy Kuzikus at any time of year; the slightly cooler months from March to October are best for horse riding.

Namibia is a truly sunny country, with more than 300 days of sunshine a year. The climate is dry, clear and usually pleasantly warm, with large differences between daytime and night-time temperatures. The southern summer, from December to February, can be hot; this is also when most of the often brief rain showers occur. The dry season, from March to November, is the classic safari season: sparse vegetation, excellent wildlife sightings and pleasant daytime temperatures. Winter nights can be chilly or cold, however, so always pack a jacket.

If your passport is lost or stolen, copies give you a clear advantage: immediate proof for the authorities, easier issue of a replacement document, and help with rebookings and emergencies. Our tip: keep one or two paper copies separately from the original, as well as a digital copy.

Health & safety

Is malaria prophylaxis needed at Kuzikus Wildlife Reserve?

In brief: No. Kuzikus lies in the heart of the Kalahari, outside any malaria-risk area.

Kuzikus is not in a malaria-risk area: it lies in the heart of the Kalahari, far from the risk zones. Namibia’s low-risk malaria area only begins in the northern part of the Etosha Pan region. Tropical medicine institutes nevertheless often recommend prophylaxis as a precaution. In our own experience, however, there has not been a single case of malaria since the company was founded. More important than prophylaxis is knowing the symptoms and taking stand-by medication if needed.

Which vaccinations are needed for a trip to Namibia?

In brief: No vaccinations are compulsory when arriving directly from Europe; routine vaccinations are recommended,
such as tetanus, diphtheria, polio and hepatitis A.
